Honestly - Brett Laurie is a huge part of this team.

Let's see if they can win their first series against Detroit today.
Ottawa. Red Sox fan but of course lots of Blue Jays fans in the family. I always want to see them do well.

That would be a negative on the series win. Another bad loss. 11-1.

Yes Laurie is looking like a big loss at the moment but the starting pitching is, as I thought it might be, a much bigger problem.

Yeah, not sure why so many people were so sold on the jays starting rotation. There were always huge question marks surrounding it.

Anyone surprised by how horrible Mark Buerhle has been so far clearly hasnt been paying attention the past couple years.

Wow at the phllies they're a shell of their former selves.

Sad to see 3 former superstars struggle in rollins, utley and Howard.

That team is in trouble they owe them huge salaries for years.

Utley i'll give some credit to him he's playing better, but man that team is just awful.

Glad to see the reds back on track, tonight will be an interesting game with the this rookie MIami has.

Knowing the reds, we'll figure out a way to suck vs a 3-12 miami team.

Jays couldn't hit a fucking beach ball. It never was the pitching. It's pitching from behind all the time.

Tied for second to last in batting AVG.

No, its the pitching. They are middle of the pack in runs scored. The issue is they are second last in runs against. Even if they had the highest scoring offense in the league they would still have a negative run differential. Even today they had to score 6 runs to win.

Ehh Look at the Reds.

3rd in runs scored, 1st in quality starts and 6th in era, yet we're only 13-9.

I hope we put a whooping on the nationals this weekend, I can pretty much assure the reds win tonight, arroyo in a big ballpark is usually a big win for us, hell same with bailey. we should win the 1st 2 games of the series.

It's a chicken and egg thing with me. If you don't go out and give your pitcher some runs to pitch with, it has a negative impact.

I don't know how they are middle of the pack in runs scored, when the average runs per game scored last year in the AL was 4.5. I bet if they stay at 3.7, they'll be in the bottom third.

Of the 15 teams in the AL the Jay are 10th in runs scored and have only 4 fewer runs than the 7th place team. That's pretty much the middle of the pack.

The problem is clearly the runs allowed. They are the second worst in the AL by a large margin. The third worst team has allowed 10 fewer runs. The next closest team in the jays division has allowed 31 fewer runs.

We are now dead last in batting average and 21st in runs scored.

I understand what you're saying about Pitching being an issue, but without giving them ammunition - we're fucked.

I feel your pain, sort of, the reds are extremely Jekyll and Hyde this year.

In 11 games they've scored 2 runs or less yet they're 5th in runs scored.

Red Sox first to win 20. Now 20-8 with +49 run diff.

Buchholz is currently realizing all of his potential (screw you and f-off Jack Morris). One of the best pitchers in the game right now.

In other news, the Blue Jays are getting close to a lost season at this point.

I'm starting to think maybe something has to be done about umpiring. This is all a result of strike zone overlays and replays from every angle. But these things aren't going away.

I have no care about this as long as they're consistant, sure a strike maybe different from one ump to the next, but that's what makes baseball, baseball.

You really want a machine/computer deciding on everything?

I'm sure it's possible they could just have an UMP sitting a box in-case a big issue comes up, but otherwise have a computer do everything working off cameras etc.

I wouldn't want balls and strikes called by a computer (I think).

I'm talking more about missed tags/foul balls etc. Drew slid home the other night and replays show that Mauer didn't make the tag. A very tough call for an ump who can only be in one place.

The strike zone overlays aren't really all that accurate. I forget where I read it but someone had an ridiculously in depth article (hardball times maybe?) that basically said that even under ideal conditions the pitch f/x system is only accurate to 1/2 an inch. And something like half a dozen stadiums were found to be out by as much as 2+ inches off because no one was keeping it maintained and calibrated.

Edit; it was baseball prospectus http://www.baseballprospectus.com/ar...rticleid=13109
