Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap

We have a lot of old school gamers here so I figured I would make a thread about this outstanding remake of a forgotten classic, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.

Lizardcube is a huge fan of Wonder Boy, so bringing the classic to current platforms was a passion project for the studio, and they knocked it out of the park. Firstly, the game is beautiful, beaming with personality everywhere. The slight changes that were made like the game auto saving instead of requiring passwords just makes the experience better without taking anything away from the original game.

It's $19.99 (xb1/ps4/Switch), so a little steep for a remake for a 30 year old game. But so much care was taken, I don't think the price is all that bad.

I haven't bought it yet, but a while back I watched a video on Metal Jesus Rocks' YouTube channel where he interviewed the developers while they played it. This was before the game was released, but was nearly done. The amount of work they put into it is pretty amazing.

Finished my normal run at 100% in about 5 hours last night. The only things I needed to look up were how to access the final dungeon and 4 of the gem locations which would have taken forever otherwise.

The amount of love and effort that went into this remake is staggering. I also think the length is perfect for this type of game. Any longer in the 10+ hour mark and it might have gotten tedious since the game requires lots of backtracking and a good memory.

Is a 5 hour game worth the $20? In this case 100% yes. The devs deserve it.
